The realXtend server is an open source server (BSD license) with which you can make your own virtual worlds available to a larger audience. The server has a sample virtual world that you can utilise as it is or you can modify it to suit your needs. realXtend also offers free, high-quality content for your own worlds.

There are currently two generations of realXtend servers. The latest technology developed in tandem with the Naali viewer is called Taiga and it has several new features compared to the previous generation 0.5 server. The Cable Beach authentication and content delivery services allow for for example OpenID based login and HTPP / WebDAV assets.

Internally realXtend server platform consists of the following servers:
Authentication Server - Keeps records of users and handles authentication
Avatar Storage Server - Stores and delivers avatar data
realXtend server - OpenSim world server with modrex plugins, handles world simulation
